We have put together pictures of our Boston Terriers that play a part in our breeding program. Past/Present/Future. Enjoy!
What do you know about the different color bostons?
Many people think bostons are only black dogs, not true. Boston Terriers come in a variety of coat colors. Many of these more unique colors are a not allowed to be shown in AKC Confirmation shows, but does not mean they do not register them. We enjoy all the colors! This is just an example of some varieties of the colors, different shading and patterns can appear.
A dog that is (red/chocolate/brown/liver) are all the same color genetically bb on the B locus of their genetic color test. B, the brown gene can come in an assortment of shades and be called any of the above mentioned depending on how the person perceives it to be. Myself, the pups that have more of an orange hue I refer to them as red, where as to a dog that has more of a brown cast and deeper color I refer to them as Chocolate.
This also is the case with a lilac or champagne. They are the same genetic markers dd/bb. Lilac tend to have more of a purple/lilac tint to them and the nose color is also more to the black/blue base color like a purple cast. They will not have a black nose. Champagne has more of a brown or pink cast to them resembling more of actual champagne color. Again it is all in the way it is perceived.

SEAL
Let's talk about seal... Seal is NOT a (red/chocolate/brown/liver) as I see so many uneducated breeders/people refer to them as. A seal dog is a BLACK dog with a BLACK nose. When in certain lighting like sunlight they will have a brown appearance to them. (red/chocolate/brown/liver) dogs all have a brown nose.
Buyer beware: Breeders that are listing their (red/chocolate/brown/liver) pups/dogs as Seal are uneducated. If the breeder uneducated about one of the most common colors of their breed, how educated are they about the health and temperament of their dogs. There is no excuse to not know what color their pups are. There are too many resources to NOT be educated on a basic common color. Some of the more unique colors can be tricky to those that do not understand color genetics, but it is very easy to know that a dog without a black nose is NOT a seal. In the picture above is 2 BLACK based dogs with BLACK noses side by side in the sun. This shows a Black on the left and a Seal on the right.
